MIP v3 Driver Problems
If you are having problems mounting image files, follow the sequence below to ensure that the MIP v3 drivers are installed and operating correctly:
- Run MIP v3 (if you are not able to access the program GUI, skip to step 4).
- At the very top of the program you will see "File | Options | Help". Click on "Help > About". This will open the program "About" window.
- In the program About window, click on the "Driver" tab, then click the "Uninstall" button. This will uninstall the existing MIP v3 drivers.
- Uninstall MIP v3 using the Windows Control Panel > Add Remove Programs.
- Go to the "Windows > System32 > Drivers" folder and delete the following two files (if they are present):
* MIPFSv332.sys
* MIPv332.sys - Reboot your PC.
- Go to "C:\Program Files\GetData\" and, if it exists, delete the folder "Mount Image Pro v3". Download and install the latest version of MIP v3 and try and mount the problem image. If the problem persists, contact support using the links on this page.
If Windows does not let you delete these files, reboot your PC and try again.
MIP v2 - Trouble Shooting
Are you running the latest version of MIP v2?
We regularly release updates to MIP. Check to see that you have the latest available version. The easiest way to do this is to run the program and click on the UPDATE button on the main program screen. Or, you can download the latest version of Mount Image Pro from this website.
Have you tried mounting with MIP v3?
Mount Image Pro v3 has a new and improved mounting engine. Please download the evaluation verison of Mount Image Pro v3 (You can have both MIP v2 and MIP v3 installed on the same PC). Does the image mount?
Can you mount other images?
Check to see if the problem relates to all image files, or just the specific image file that you cannot mount.
Check to see that the MIP driver is installed correctly
MIP operates via a system driver. To make sure that the drive is installed correctly, do the following:
Run the program in Windows. Click on HELP > ABOUT > DRIVER to view the driver information.
Now check the driver information in DOS. Open a Command Line (DOS) window (Is mip.exe is on the "Path" environment variable? If it isn't then you will need to type in long DOS commands. The MIP Help File gives details how to add MIP to the path). Type the following commands:
- MIP REMOVE (removes the MIP driver)
- MIP INSTALL (installs the MIP driver)
- MIP STATUS (provides the status of the MIP driver)
Now try and mount the problem image in DOS:
- MIP MOUNT {image file name of the E01 file}.
- MIP VIEW {image file name of the E01 file} and examine the results. You should see the available partitions within the image set.
Where are your image files located?
Do the image files reside on a "compressed" or "encrypted" drive or folder. MIP may not mount the images when they are under control of another process like compression or encryption.
Still can't mount the image?
If you still cannot mount the image files the output you receive from the above commands to us using the email link on this page. Either screen dump them or pipe the results into a file and send that.
